Senior Manager / Director – Advisory Accounting
Location: Local / Hybrid
Compensation: $125,000 base
A well-established and growing local CPA firm is seeking a Senior Manager / Director of Advisory Accounting to lead its expanding Accounting Advisory practice. This is a leadership-level opportunity for a CPA with strong technical accounting expertise and experience overseeing advisory or outsourced accounting teams.
The Advisory Accounting group has seen significant recent growth, providing back-office and end-to-end accounting support to middle-market clients, including large distributors and organizations recently acquired by private equity groups.
Position Overview
This role will oversee the Advisory Accounting team, manage complex client engagements, and serve as a senior technical resource for both clients and internal professionals. The firm is seeking someone who can operate strategically while remaining hands-on with complex accounting matters.
Key Responsibilities
Advisory Practice Leadership
Provide oversight and leadership for the firm’s Accounting Advisory function, including engagement delivery, quality control, and team performance
Partner with firm leadership on the continued growth and scalability of advisory services
Serve as a senior-level reviewer on complex accounting matters and advisory engagements
Client Advisory & Technical Accounting
Act as a trusted advisor to clients on complex accounting and financial reporting issues, including consolidations and multi-entity structures
Oversee full-cycle accounting services, including monthly close, financial statements, and quarterly compilations
Support clients through private equity transactions, integrations, and periods of rapid growth
Work with large, sophisticated clients, including distributors and construction or project-based businesses
Collaborate with audit and tax teams while operating outside of the traditional audit function
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, mentor, and develop Managers and staff within the Advisory Accounting group
Review work products and provide technical guidance and coaching
Assist with hiring, onboarding, and performance management of advisory team members
Systems & Analytics
Utilize advanced Excel skills to review complex schedules, reconciliations, and financial models
Oversee the use of multiple accounting systems and reporting tools; ability to quickly learn new software is essential
Drive process improvements for both client engagements and internal workflows
Qualifications
Active CPA license (required)
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting and advisory experience strongly preferred
Prior experience leading accounting advisory, outsourced accounting, or client accounting services teams
Strong technical knowledge of consolidations and complex accounting matters
Experience with quarterly compilations and non-audit advisory services
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; comfort working across multiple accounting platforms
Experience supporting middle-market and private equity-backed clients
Construction or project-based accounting experience is a plus
Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex client relationships
Compensation & Opportunity
$125,000 base salary, with bonus potential
