Tax Manager
The Tax Manager is responsible for the accurate preparation, coordination, and review of tax compliance and supporting tax information across a diversified portfolio of real estate entities, operating companies, trusts, and related ownership structures. This is a hands‑on, execution‑focused role ensuring timely, complete, and accurate tax filings while partnering closely with the VP of Tax & Accounting and external CPA firms.
The Tax Manager serves as the internal subject‑matter expert for day‑to‑day tax matters and is the primary owner of tax data integrity, schedules, and filings. The role includes clear escalation to senior leadership for tax strategy, complex judgment calls, and risk positions.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Execution
Prepare, coordinate, and review federal, state, and local tax filings across complex real estate, operating company, and trust structures, including partnerships, corporations, and pass‑through entities
Manage tax deliverables end‑to‑end, ensuring filings are accurate, complete, and submitted on time
Maintain detailed tax workpapers, schedules, and supporting documentation to support filings and audits
Data Ownership & Integrity
Own the accuracy and completeness of tax data, including capitalization, debt, ownership, and intercompany activity
Coordinate closely with accounting to ensure tax filings align with financial statements and underlying books and records
Monitor changes in entity structures and ownership to ensure ongoing tax compliance
External CPA & Advisor Management
Serve as the primary day‑to‑day contact for external CPA firms and advisors
Coordinate information requests, review draft returns, and resolve questions efficiently
Ensure external advisors have accurate and timely data while maintaining internal control over tax positions
Collaboration & Leadership Support
Partner closely with the VP of Tax & Accounting on tax planning initiatives, issue resolution, and risk assessment
Escalate complex technical issues, uncertain tax positions, and strategic considerations to senior leadership
Support responses to tax notices, audits, and inquiries as needed
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve tax compliance processes, documentation standards, and data flow
Assist in building scalable tax processes to support growth and evolving ownership structures
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field
5–8+ years of progressive tax experience, with strong exposure to real estate and pass‑through entities
Hands‑on experience preparing and reviewing partnership and corporate tax returns
Strong understanding of entity structures, capital activity, and ownership changes
Experience working directly with external CPA firms and advisors
Preferred
CPA or Master’s in Taxation
Experience in a complex, multi‑entity real estate environment (private equity, family office, or similar)
Familiarity with trusts and related ownership structures
